Description of the room

Room Nº4. Competitions and Collections

Room of Creativity in Footwear, which brings together a series of shoes that were the object of prizes awarded in different design competitions in Spain and around the world. Of particular note are the winning shoes from the "Cambrillón de Oro" competitions held at the first footwear fairs in Elda.

The winning shoes of the "Golden Pencil" competition for young designers at international level, since 1984, where every year we let ourselves be surprised.

We can contemplate a very wide collection of shoe miniatures made by different master craftsmen, as well as collections of sculptures or wood carvings on the last.

With waste shoes some authors make shoes with various applications and transform them into decorative masks, or with similarity to famous characters.

The shoes were awarded prizes in the National Artisan Shoe Competition organised by the Shoe Museum in 1994 and 1995.

Here you can also see the work of two great craftsmen who left their jobs to make unique shoes:

The Julio Vibot collection that created a footwear museum in Palencia and whose funds were donated to our Footwear Museum in 1998. Vibot not only made many shoes throughout the history of mankind, but also specialized in the manufacture of custom shoes for men and women. But perhaps the most relevant aspect of his career as an "exemplary shoemaker" was his specialisation in making shoes for feet with deformations and malformations, also for simulated feet as a result of major trauma to the feet, lifting many of his patients out of wheelchairs.

The collection of Pedro Lozano, from Palencia like the previous one, a master of precision and art in footwear. He was the winner of many distinctions and awards, receiving in 2010 the gold medal for "Merit in Work". He made shoes to measure and for feet with deformations.

At the back of this room a diorama has been installed. It is a representation of a 19th century house converted into a "workshop", where several members of a family or neighbouring families used to meet to carry out the work of making shoes, from cutting the leather, through the cutting apparatus and ending with the manual assembly and finishing. In this representation each phase of the production of a shoe is illuminated and a "voiceover" explains the different phases of the process.
