Footwear Museum Jose María Amat Amer

One more year Museo del Calzado joins the International Museum Day 2021 festival, adhering to the central motto of the day proposed by ICOM: rethinking the museum of the future to face the challenges of the present.

The International Council of Museums (ICOM) 2020 has been a year like no other. The Covid-19 crisis abruptly spread around the world, impacting all aspects of our lives: from interactions with our loved ones, to the way we perceive our homes and cities, to our work and its organization. Some problems have been exacerbated, leading us to question the very fabric of our societies: the call for equality is stronger than ever.
Museums are no exception to these changes. The cultural sector is among the most affected. However, this crisis has also served as a catalyst for crucial innovations that were already underway. In particular, a greater focus on digitization and the creation of new forms of cultural experience and diffusion.
This is a crucial moment for our societies: museums must embrace and lead change. The time has come to rethink our relationship with the communities we serve, to experiment with new and hybrid models of cultural consumption, and to strongly reaffirm the value of museums in building a just and sustainable future. We must advocate for the creative potential of culture as an engine of recovery and innovation in the post-Covid era.
With the slogan "The future of museums: Recover and reimagine", the International Museum Day 2021 invites to create, imagine and share new practices of value creation, where the Museum must be part of the daily life of citizens, with proposals for new cultural and tourist experiences.

We understand Museum Day as an opportunity to promote among all citizens the culture that revolves in the city at all levels, a unification of all of them to create a synergy at all levels on that day.

Museum Day itself is May 18, Tuesday, on that day we propose an open day with free guided tours for all those citizens who can, on a weekday, or in their free time, come to the Museum and enjoy the culture around Footwear.

We have moved the main activities to Sunday the 23rd in the morning, to maximize the number of people who can enjoy them.

On this day we will have:

Free guided tour by students of the higher degree of Tourism of the Elda Valley and Tirant Lo Blanc de Elche
Passes every half hour between 10:30 am and 1:00 pm.

Activities for children between the ages of 4 and 14: Creative Space "La Horma de tu Zapato Workshop".
Customization with artistic plastic techniques of our classic and symbolic last + History of Footwear told for children.

An important element in a festive day: Music, we want to take advantage of a space such as the Shoe Museum building with great acoustics, to liven up the visit to the rhythm of jazz / swing / soul….

Meet and taste new proposals from young people from Elde who have embarked on a Mead business adventure with a unique drink, fermented with honey, based on the recipe for the oldest known alcoholic drink, but reinvented and adapted to the new times.

And the perfect marriage between culture, shoes, music, mead is provided by María Navarro with a tasting proposal harmonized with Eldenses cheeses, and from the rest of the world.

In short, new ways to enjoy and bring the Footwear Museum closer to citizens.

Of course, this activity is proposed observing all current covid measures. The groups of guided visits and the children's workshops will be of 10 people maximum, so please reserve your experience at the Footwear Museum by calling 965 383 021, or by email info@museocalzado.com
