WOMAN IN THE BEST SHOES AWARD

The Woman in the Best Shoes in Spain Award is an honorific nomination with the objective of giving value to Spanish Footwear, focusing on women of renowned social prestige and with a strong presence in the media, who deserve to act as ambassador to the shoe industry for a whole year, committing themselves to contributing to the dissemination of the extraordinary quality and design of shoe brands and producers, as well as the good work of handicraft shoemakers.

The Woman in the Best Shoes in Spain is awarded this prize during an annual ceremony held in the Footwear Museum in Elda before celebrities, business people in this sector and the media. At this ceremony she receives the award and the pin with the symbol of the Winged Shoe representing the spirit of the award and which embodies the responsibility given when it comes to making the industry take off, making it rise past any borders. To such end, the woman awarded receives the most valuable jewels: pairs of shoes designed by the collaborating companies with the features of the woman awarded in mind. These are handed over during a ceremony on the same day.

Ona Carbonell, The Woman in the Best Shoes in Spain 2018

Ona Carbonell, The Woman in the Best Shoes in Spain 2018

Ona Carbonell Ballestero (born in Barcelona, June 5th 1990) is considered, nowadays, the best swimmer in history. Her lifetime may be summarised into 23 world medals, 10 hours of training a day and 19 years under pressure. Last July she took part in the world cup in Gwangju (South Korea), which turned her into a legend, since only two athletes are ahead of her when it comes to sporting achievements: Michael Phelps, with 33 medals and Ryan Lochte, with 27.

Her professional achievements and her passion for fashion turn this sportswoman into the best candidate to The Woman in the Best Shoes in Spain Award in 2018 (2019 edition) at a time when women are claiming their deserved place in society with more power than ever. Ona is a living example of success and the achievement of goals. She is a role model for professional and personal growth, showing with her work and determination that success is not linked to gender in any field.

A true perfectionist, she claims that “perfection is a utopia which one can only get close to through work, persistence and a healthy ambition to give the best of oneself. This is my goal, to grow as a sportswoman and as a person, and to try to achieve it through teamwork, discipline and effort.”

Among her hobbies, we can find fashion, and it is common to find her in specialised magazine articles, red carpets, advertising campaigns and photocalls at the most important social events trusting the designs by Spanish creators. She has just finished a degree in design and just three months ago, she launched her bikini collection 'Be You' by Tymory. In fact, some of the swimming suits worn in competitions have been created by her.
